Villaine Bourgogne La Fortune 2023

Region: Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy

Grape Variety: Pinot Noir

Produced from 25-30 year old vines that are farmed using biodynamic practices. Like DRC this wine is fermented and aged in wood tanks with roughly 2/3 of the stems. They employ extended post fermentation skin contact for 10-12 days, so as to add extra skin tannins and just a little tannin from the seeds and stems. The wine is then aged in second pass barrels, the first year they held the reds of DRC, for 10-12 months.

I have not tasted the 2022 yet but typically this is a bigger expression of Bourgogne Rouge than the ordinary, with deep fruit framed by firm tannins and some of the herbal/oolong quality from the stems. In a vintage as exceptional as 2022 I would suggest drinking 2028-2032.
