Grape Variety: Bonarda

Before Malbec took over, Bonarda was Argentina’s most planted grape—a vigorous variety that often produced simple, rustic wines. But winemaker Matias Michelini takes a different approach, leaning into Bonarda’s fresher side with a style that nods more to Beaujolais than big, oaky reds. The fruit for this bottling comes from Manuel Pelegrina’s vineyards in Tupungato, where sandy soils and high elevation keep the wine light on its feet.

After a native yeast fermentation, the wine undergoes carbonic maceration in sealed concrete tanks, enhancing its juicy, fruit-forward personality. It’s bottled with minimal intervention, preserving the brightness and energy of the variety. Serve slightly chilled (around 55°F) to bring out the nose of crushed blackberry, ripe cherry, strawberry, and plum leaf. Drink now through 2028 with grilled sausages, burgers, pulled pork, brisket—or anything smoky off the grill.
