Ty Caton Cabernet Sauvignon Little Hill 2022

Ty Caton’s vineyards sit on Moon Mountain, which is the Sonoma side of Mount Veeder in Napa. The Sonoma side is more exposed to cool breezes off San Pablo Bay and is well known for producing powerful wines thanks to the long hang time. The Little Hill section of the vineyard is his lowest-yielding area, as the tiny vines grow in a fine, dusty soil. There are few nutrients, so the yields are very small, but the fruit is extremely intense. Ty always says this produces wines most like those of Bordeaux, meaning less overripe and more structured.
Ty only produced 120 cases of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from his best block of estate grapes. It was aged for 18 months in 60% new French oak. The bouquet features cassis, kirsch, and espresso, with a deep core of fruit framed by obvious tannins. At this price, it is truly an exceptional deal.
