There is a reason Moscato d’Asti has remained one of Piedmont’s most beloved wines. When made well, it offers something surprisingly difficult to achieve: sweetness without heaviness, exuberant aromatics without overwhelming the palate, and just enough sparkle to make every sip feel refreshing.
The Tintero family farms in the hills around Mango, in the Langhe region of Piedmont, where Moscato Bianco has a long history. Their Sori Gramella Moscato d’Asti captures everything that makes this traditional wine so appealing.
Unlike fully sparkling Asti, Moscato d’Asti is only gently effervescent. Fermentation is stopped while some of the grape’s natural sugar remains, preserving its fragrant fruit character and keeping the alcohol remarkably low at just 5.5%. The result is a wine that feels playful and aromatic rather than rich or syrupy.
Fresh white peach, ripe pear, orange blossom, and a touch of honey rise from the glass. On the palate, the delicate bubbles and bright acidity keep the sweetness beautifully balanced, finishing with a clean, refreshing lift.
Serve it well chilled alongside fresh strawberries, peach tart, or almond biscotti. It is also a wonderful contrast to spicy Thai food, where its gentle sweetness helps soften the heat.
And while Moscato d’Asti is often treated as a dessert wine, we think that sells it a little short. Sometimes a lightly sparkling glass of something fragrant, refreshing, and just sweet enough is exactly what you want, dessert or not.
