The Tessari family has farmed the hills of Soave for generations, but today it is three sisters; Meri, Valentina and Allessandra who are carrying the family’s story forward. Their parents founded Suavia in 1982, finally deciding to bottle their own wine from land the family had worked since the 1800s. And this is remarkable land. Their vineyards sit high in the historic Soave Classico zone on ancient volcanic soils, where the family focuses entirely on the region’s native white grapes. This bottle is 100% Garganega, harvested from hillside vineyards and fermented in stainless steel, followed by several months on the lees to add texture without covering up the grapes’ freshness. Fresh apple, pear and white flowers meet the subtle almond note that is the hallmark of Garganega, while bright acidity and a distinctly mineral, slightly salty finish keep you coming back for another sip. It’s the kind of white that feels equally at home as an aperitif or at the table with grilled fish, risotto or fresh cheeses.
