Jose Luis released his first Bierzo with the 2018 vintage and it instantly became a store favorite. The new 2020 is a fantastic example, and a surprisingly good choice for Thanksgiving dinner. At the heart of this is 40 year old Mencia bush vines that grow in the nutrient poor granite and slate soils of the Bierzo region.

When you decant this wine you will see why it is an easy pick for Thanksgiving, with notes of fresh blueberries, dried cranberries, lingonberry preserves, black tea and graphite. On the palate it is initially plump but then the tannins provide a modest frame into the relatively long finish. This highly versatile wine is perfect with not only Thanksgiving, but also seared lamb shoulder steaks with olive oil and rosemary, or pork tenderloin marinated in orange and soy sauce.
