Scavino Barolo Bric del Fiasc 2022

The true name of this Cru is Fiasco, but the original holding is owned by the Scavino cousins, who bottle under the name Azelia. By agreement, the Scavinos bottle their parcel, which is now part of the MDA, adding the name “bric,” which means “slope” in the old Piedmontese dialect. Appropriately, this wine comes from the top of the hill in Castiglione Falletto. Regardless of the name, this is one of the great crus of Barolo, located at a place where the two primary soil types converge, a mix of 75% sandstone and 25% limestone. This is the darkest and most powerful wine in the stable, with dark fruit notes wrapped in licorice, leather, and cedar. Drink this one from 2028-2040.
