fresh raspberry, red cherry pit, strawberry leaf, fresh basil, and earth
In the Orlando store, this is the wine that kick-started our love for Roterfaden, and remains our go-to bottle for introducing customers to the world of German red wines. Four different varieties are used in this blend, including the local noble grape Lemberger, also called Blaufränkisch in Austria. Filling out the blend we have Trollinger, another local variety, to provide acidity and balance, and 10% each of Schwarzriesling (Pinot Meunier) and Regent, a full-bodied red variety we affectionately call “German Merlot.” Hannes and Olympia work in the cellar of the local co-op to ferment each of these varieties separately before blending. This wine is a great example of a red wine from Württemberg, light in color and low in alcohol but with surprising aromatic intensity.
When you open this wine, you will want to decant for up to half an hour. In addition, this wine benefits from a slight chill. In fact, you could serve both of these wines at the same temperature! Once this wine has some time to open up it delivers notes of fresh raspberry, red cherry pit, strawberry leaf, fresh basil, and earth. Drink now through 2026 with grilled sausage and potatoes, chicken cutlets, or a roast beef sandwich with horseradish.
