Permani Ribolla Gialla 2023

Region: Friuli, Italy
Grape Variety: Ribolla Gialla
Located at the north-east corner of the country, next to Slovenia, the wines have long been an outlier of Italian wines. This is because until the WWI this part of Italy was a piece of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Consequently the producers pick later and produce richer, more textured wines like those of Austria.
This bottling is made from the grape Ribolla Gialla, a very old variety that is popular in the vineyards close to the border of Slovenia, where it is also known as Rebula. Typical of the variety this wine is light and crisp, with a slightly crunchy sense of raw quince and pomelo. Serve with gnocchi with brown butter and sage or salmon patties.
