dried cherry, black raspberry, dried fig, balsamic vinegar, and wet earth

Mocine is a Renaissance-era farm and winery located just outside of Siena. In addition to producing quality wines and olive oil, the property also functions as a bed and breakfast, carrying on the medieval tradition of wineries doubling as an inn for weary pilgrims. However, the winery is unique not for the views of the countryside but for its cultivation of a number of rare local varieties such as Foglio Tondo and Barsaglina, the latter of which is blended into this particular wine. These grape varieties date back to the Middle Ages, where the region’s wines were often field blends of both red and white fruit.

Similar to the Villa Uffizj detailed above, all fruit used in this wine is grown organically. This wine is predominantly composed of Sangiovese, though small amounts of Barsaglina and Colorino Nero are used to add body and color. After fermentation and blending, the finished wine is racked to gently-used French oak barrels for 12 months before bottling. When you open this wine, you will want to decant for at least half an hour. Once this wine has some time to open up it displays notes of dried cherry, black raspberry, dried fig, balsamic vinegar, and wet earth. Drink now through 2026 with spinach ravioli, Greek salad, or even grilled salmon!
