Jumilla is a region we usually associate with big, bold reds with Monastrell driving the train. But Bodegas Luzón shows another side of this region with this lively white. An equal blend of Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc grown at an elevation of 800 meters, where altitude helps provide relief from the intense heat of Southeastern Spain. The grapes are harvested in the early morning when it’s cool and fermented at low temperatures to preserve freshness. Macabeo brings texture and orchard fruit notes, while Sauvignon Blanc gives this wine acidity and a bright, aromatic lift resulting in a juicy, expressive wine. Jumilla may have built a reputation for big reds, but this bottle makes a convincing case to keep a few of the region’s white wines in your fridge as well.
