We have been fans of the wines of Bernard Latour for several years. Like many producers in the Southern Rhône, he works across several appellations, applying the same minimal approach in the cellar for all his wines. The reds are very popular, but less well-known is his white Côtes du Rhône. This blend of 70% Viognier and 30% Grenache Blanc is perfect for this time of year when you want a cold glass of refreshing but not simple wine.

Both grapes in this blend are aromatic, so the nose really jumps out of the glass with rich notes of peach preserves, pear liqueur, fresh yellow apple, and honeysuckle. There is also a lot of texture and richness, framed near the finish with some zippy acidity that keeps it from feeling clunky. You do not need to serve this wine with food, but it will work nicely with any sautéed fish with lemon and capers or something rich, like butter chicken.
