The wines of Abruzzo are enjoying a moment, between an excellent article last year in the New York Times “The Pour” and Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy. It is a rustic, isolated region mostly known for inexpensive wines that are the staple for most pizza and pasta Italian restaurants. However, there is a new breed of producer in the region farming with great intention and making incredible wines with great character. This family is one leading the charge with a great bottle that the local distributor recently discounted.

As the label reads, “Biological” this wine is farmed using organic practices. Not that it means much but in a region of mostly high volume producers is speaks to the Jasci family commitment to quality. With a couple of years in the bottle this wine is showing some gorgeous fruit, framed by the softest sense of tannins. Don’t pigeon hole this wine serve only with pasta, try with fajitas, lamb vindaloo or with steak chimichurri.
