"Standing on top of the great Cru of Soave, Foscarin, Stefano Inama made the statement, “good Soave Classico is a little luxury for every day.” I can tell you that in that moment, with the summer wind blowing gently in our faces and the setting sun casting jagged shadows across the vines clinging to the steep slopes, he is right. Good Soave Classico is a very affordable luxury and Stefano’s is not just good, it is one of the best.
Soave Classico comes from the same general area as Valpolicella and Amarone, a series of hills that begins east of Lake Garda. This is the bottom of the Alps, formed when the African continental plate collided with southern Europe millions of years ago. Prior to this collision the region was an ocean, so much of the soil is a deep layer of limestone. As a result the region is a complex mix of mineral laden soils, adding to the complexity of the wine. The Inama family makes this wine from 100% Garganega, an ancient white variety that forms the backbone of white winemaking in the Veneto. When ripe the grapes take on a golden hue, hinting to the beauty to be released during fermentation." - Tim Varan
