Region: Sancerre, Loire Valley, France

Grape Variety: Pinot Noir

Though the white wines of the region have garnered international recognition, praised for their ability to pair with everything from raw oysters to Mary Hemingway’s famous chicken salad sandwiches, the Pinot Noir grape has its own story to tell in Sancerre. Despite representing less than 1% of total production on average, Sancerre rosé is renowned for its naturally high acidity, aromatic complexity, and in light of Valentine’s Day weekend, its ability to pair well with any meal! Grown on a balance of clay and the region’s characteristic limestone soils, this wine is an example of the Bourgeois family’s commitment to terroir.

All fruit used in this wine comes from the village of Chavignol, located just a few minutes west of Sancerre. The clay soils and moderate climate make this an ideal growing environment for Pinot Noir. This wine sees about 48 hours of skin maceration, just enough to extract additional color and aromatic intensity, before fermentation and bottling. When you open this wine, you will want to serve it chilled, but not ice cold, around 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit. Once this wine has some time to open up it delivers notes of pink cherry, watermelon rind, hibiscus, and sea salt. Drink now through 2028 with quiche Lorraine, charcuterie with fresh berries, or grilled salmon.
