The remote Itata Valley in Chile is home to a number of traditional techniques and varieties. Winemaker Gustavo Riffo returned to his family farm after working for a biodynamic winery in Sonoma, and currently works with some exceptionally old vines (200+ years). “Pipeño” is a local term for an open-fermented “country wine,” made from native varieties and meant for easy drinking. This wine certainly checks both boxes! Drink with picnic foods such as ham sandwiches or cheeseburgers.
