"Long-time customers of our Orlando store will no doubt be familiar with Guillaume Gonnet, a young winemaker based in the Southern Rhone whose wines routinely factor into our club selections and features. Guillaume and his wife Kelly are based in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, having assumed control of his family's old vineyards in 2016. The couple have expanded their vineyard holdings to include a number of different appellations in the Southern Rhone, and focus on producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of each. Cairanne is a former Cotes-du-Rhone village that earned appellation status in 2018, although wines from the village have been recognized for their quality since the 1960s. Cairanne was one of the initial five villages involved in the creation of the Cotes-du-Rhone Villages appellation. Located on a limestone plateau just north of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Guillaume's Cairanne vineyards are planted with 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, with the average vine age being approximately 45 years old. These grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed before spending 25 days fermenting in concrete tanks, Guillaume and Kelly's vessel of choice for expressing terroir without changing the flavor of the wines." - JP Donnelly-Davis
