Region: Côtes du Rhône, France
Grape Varieties: Viognier, Grenache Blanc, & Roussanne
I often find that white Côtes du Rhône can be a little flabby and alcoholic. Of course the Gonnet’s knock theirs out of the park with a freshness rarely found in the category. It is composed of three Rhône staples: Viognier, Grenache Blanc, and Roussanne. These grapes are sourced from north-facing vineyards just south of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and the blend for this wine is quite similar to Guillaume’s Châteauneuf Blanc. They amplify the flavors by blocking malolactic conversion, keeping the cellar at cooler temperatures while the wine ferments.
When you open this wine, you will not want to serve it ice cold. I would recommend taking it out of your refrigerator for about 15 minutes before serving. Additionally, this wine will benefit from decanting, similar to the red Côtes du Rhône. Once this wine is decanted, it delivers intense notes of stone fruits, fresh quince, citrus peel, and magnolia blossom with a faint hint of sea spray. Drink now through 2026 with garlic pork chops, chicken and rice dishes, spinach and artichoke dip, or soft cheeses.
