Gonnet Chateauneuf du Pape Bel Ami 2022

Fun fact, Guillaume’s mother is a Brunier and aunt to the owners of Vieux Telegraph. As such, Guillaume has holdings in the famed La Crau climate, and that makes up a nice chunk of this wine. Did I mention the new vintage of Vieux Telegraph is $145? That is nearly a 3 to 1 trade, and my personal experience with both is that the difference is slight.

One of the great attributes of Châteauneuf is that they drink well young and age for up to a decade if you can wait that long. The 2022 from Gonnet is a rich mix of dark cherry, blueberry, dried figs, fennel, and sage. It’s rich with some structure, so decant for a half hour if you plan to serve this year. It is a knockout with smoked turkey and amazing with grilled picanha or lasagna Bolognese.
