The Rosés of Provence are certainly enjoying a minute. However few consumers know that the best examples come from a tiny village on the French Riviera called Bandol. Unlike those labeled as Provence, the regulations of Bandol require the grapes to be hand harvested ensuring only the highest quality grapes make it to into the wine.
We are blessed to have an exclusive relationship with this second generation estate in Bandol, today run by Celine and Jerome Pascal. They farm 65 acres using organic principles so yields are lower than the legal limit. They produce red and white examples but their Rosé is a blend of 50% Mourvèdre and 25% each of Grenache and Cinsault.
When you open this wine, you will want to let it warm up a little to cellar temperature. The nose is fresh strawberry, rhubarb, pink peppercorns and pink sea salt. Where Bandol stands out is the texture, which is richer and shows more dimension than the typical Provence, with a gorgeous texture and length. Serve with bouillabaisse, grilled octopus or whole fish.
