Sancerre may get all the attention, but Sauvignon Blanc has plenty more to say in the Loire Valley. Bernard Fleuriet and his sons, Benoît and Mathieu, know the grape particularly well. From their family estate in Menetou-Râtel, they farm 30 hectares of Sancerre along with another five hectares in neighboring Menetou-Salon. For their Les Belles Vignes (meaning “The Beautiful Vines”), they turn their attention to Touraine and a fresh, wonderfully accessible expression of Sauvignon Blanc. The 2024 is bright and energetic, with grapefruit, white peach, green apple and elderflower, followed by the grassy edge and flinty minerality that makes Loire Sauvignon Blanc so distinctive. Serve it well chilled with oysters, goat cheese, grilled fish or anything with plenty of fresh herbs. For anyone who loves Sancerre, but not always the Sancerre price tag, this is an easy bottle to enjoy.
