Region: Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France

Grape Varieties: 80% Merlot & 20% Cabernet Franc

If you love medium to full bodied red wines and are not drinking Bordeaux right now you are missing out. Thanks to several large vintages and declining consumption the cellars are full and prices are not rising. Looking for the perfect inflation fighter, for wine there is no better values. Recently we tasted this bottle and it blew us away! A six year old wine from a good vintage and less than $25? I defy you to find a better value.

As with all Saint-Émilion the blend is dominated by Merlot, roughly 80%, with the balance being Cabernet Franc. With a few years in the bottle it shows the complexity of its age with aromas of dried black figs and plums, balsamic syrup, dark chocolate, soy sauce and black licorice. On the palate it shows the power of the ripe 2018 vintage with deep veins of fruit and soft, almost transparent tannins. The true beauty is the chalky notes of the Saint-Émilion limestone that gives this wine such beautiful balance. This is a great wine to consider for all your holiday meals, from turkey to standing rib roast and just about anything in between.
