Fire Road Pinot Noir 2020

This wine is named in honor of the great Boxing Day Fire of 2000, when 15,000 acres of land burned in a wildfire that threatened the Marlborough regional capital of Blenheim. For over three days, the fire burned, killing thousands of heads of livestock as well as a number of vineyards and wineries. Disaster was avoided by the brave residents of what is now known as Fire Road, who battled the blaze by using buckets and hand-held hoses and the eventual assistance of a fortunate wind shift. To honor those people, our importer, Winesellers, created the Fire Road wines.
It is not common to see Pinot Noir from Marlborough that is six years old, but remember almost all New Zealand wines are bottled under screw caps. This slows the aging process and allows the wines to develop slowly. As such, this wine shows incredible aromas of mature Pinot Noir; rooisbos tea, dried strawberries, old leather, and pipe tobacco. The feel on the palate is bright and shows moderate fruit into the finish. This is a really nice example of what Pinot Noir tastes like with some age at a great price. Only 90 bottles are available.
