It’s hard to talk about Argentine wine without talking about Malbec, but Zuccardi makes a compelling case to look beyond it. Their Serie A collection, short for “ Argentina Series,” explores different grape varieties in the places the family believes suit them particularly well. For Cabernet Sauvignon, that means vineyards in Mendoza’s Uco Valley, where high elevation and the influence of the nearby Andes help preserve freshness in this otherwise powerful grape. Zuccardi has spent three generations studying this landscape, beginning in 1963 when engineer Alberto “Tito” Zuccardi planted the family’s first vineyard while demonstrating an irrigation system he had invented. The 2024 Cabernet is fresh and lively, with blackberry, red and dark fruit and firm but polished tannins. It’s a bright, approachable expression of Cabernet and a great opportunity to look beyond Malbec in Argentina.
