We have done everything but ring the bell on the recently opened Notre Dame Cathedral to draw attention to the insane value available in Bordeaux. Years of over production and declining consumption in the EU has created an ocean of wine available that is holding prices down, even on older vintages. Here is one of the best examples we have found, a 10 year old bottle recently released from the chateau and ready to drink right now. Oh yeah, and this estate is owned by the Bonnie family who are famous for their Grand Cru estate Malartic-Lagravière.
At ten years old you will want to decant this wine for at least a half hour. Once you do it is redolent with notes of dried cherry, fresh blackberry, pencil lead, dark chocolate and wet clay. The fruit is evolved but far from old and the tannins are silky and barely present, allowing this wine to really stretch across the palate. This wine screams for lamb chops, Beef Wellington or a standing rib roast.
