"For customers looking for exceptional bang for the buck, it is really hard not to like the current releases from Bordeaux. The wines produced in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018 offer exceptional quality, and even with a less favorable exchange rate, are still very good values. Take for example this tremendous wine from Serge and Julien Couderc. Their family has farmed this 90 acre vineyard since 1898, becoming their primary focus in 1985.

Their property lies high up on the plateau de Pujols, a rocky outcrop overlooking the Dordogne Valley and facing the slopes of Saint Emilion. The soils are primarily clay and limestone, with much of the plantings on terraces built by five generations of the Couderc family. Julien joined the family 1997, after earning degrees in viticulture and oenology, and they have since fully modernized the entire operation. Fermentation lasts up to four weeks, in a combination of stainless steel and concrete. The blend of the 2015 is 80% Merlot, and 20% of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc." - Tim Varan
