Each year we receive a microscopic allocation of Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé which is the holy grail of the category. The matriarch of Domaine Tempier was Lulu Peyraud, who herself is a legend for her ability to entertain effortlessly while working with the bounty of Provence. This is highlighted by the excellent cookbook by Richard Olney, Lulu’s Provencal Table, which goes into great detail about her and her cooking. This example by Morgan Twain-Peterson is in honor of her and the emblematic Tempier Rosé.
Like Tempier this example is based on the Mourvedre grape, harvested from two of the oldest vineyards in California in Contra Costa county. There is also some Grenache and Cinsault from Dry Creek as well. On the palate it is fairly rich and soft, with only a background of acidity and a long, savory finish.
