"As a quick recap of this winery, they are located in the Washington State AVA of Walla Walla, but like most producers in that small area they also purchase grapes from other areas. The wines they bottle from their estate vineyard in Walla Walla have a black label, those from purchased grapes have a white label. Both vintages of our feature are produced using grapes grown in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, which is a sprawling region west of Walla Walla that borders the Columbia River. Most of the vineyards in this region face south and many are on steep slopes. The climate is quite warm so the conditions are ideal to produce heat loving varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. In 2016, the winery used only one vineyard source for the grapes, the Wallula Vineyard in Horse Heaven Hills, and it is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. For this wine it was aged in only French oak barrels, of which 38% were new. There were only 196 cases of this wine made." - Tim Varan
