Region: Sardegna, Italy
Grape Variety: Vermentino
Vermentino is often considered the quintessential Mediterranean variety, associated with long summers, seafood, and the beaches of the Riviera. Though cultivated in regions from Provence to Tuscany, the Vermentino cultivated in its island homeland of Sardinia stands apart from the crowd for its quality and unique maritime aromatics. This particular bottling is sourced from south-facing vineyards planted in the 1980s, the same vines used in the inaugural vintage of this wine in 1989! Located within miles of the island’s south coast, the vines benefit from a long, sunny growing season, with maritime breezes preventing excess heat and over-ripeness.
In the winery, all fruit is fermented in stainless steel tanks, with a portion undergoing malolactic conversion for additional complexity. This wine is bottled after a brief maturation in stainless steel to preserve its natural freshness and acidity. When you open this wine, you will want to serve it chilled, but not ice-cold, around 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Once this wine hits the glass it delivers classic notes of Meyer lemon peel, lemon drop, fresh fennel bulb, and sea spray. Drink 2025-2027 with garlic grilled shrimp, Ahi tuna poke, or Caesar salad with grated pecorino cheese.
