Antonio Sanguineti Nessun Dorma 2024

We are enormous fans of the wines of Antonio Sanguineti, who is know across Tuscany as the “big banana.” This is because he races through the hills of the region in his bright yellow sports car, with Italian opera blasting as he sings along. On a more serious note his also famous for his consulting with dozens of properties across central Italy as one of the most respected enologists of his generation.

For this wine he uses grapes from three vineyard sites; 50% Sangiovese from Capalbano, in Chianti, 30% Merlot from near Sienna, and 20% Syrah from Perazzeta, in the Maremma.

It shows ripe, rich notes of cooked raspberry, black cherry, milk chocolate and black olive. It is nicely dense on the palate, with firm, obvious tannins that will take a year to resolve. Still, this is a delicious bottle now with pizza, lasagna or spaghetti with sausage.
