On the back label of many Bordeaux sold at Tim’s Wine Market, you may have noticed the Maison Rivière label. The Rivière family are both winemakers and negociants and own several chateaux throughout the region. Based in the famous appellation of Saint-Emilion, the wines produced by the Rivière brothers are typically full-bodied and capable of extended aging. This statement extends to this wine as well, their “house label,” which is sourced from outlying vineyards of the famous Clos des Menuts property.

To make this wine, fruit is harvested both by hand and by machine. There is a special emphasis on Merlot, which makes up the majority of the blend, with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc for acidity and structure. After extended skin maceration in stainless steel, the three varieties are blended together and spend 12 months in gently used French oak before bottling. When you open this wine, I strongly suggest decanting for at least half an hour. Drink now through 2026 with smoked brisket, scalloped potatoes, or beef carpaccio.
