We are big fans of the Prosecco from Salvatore Lovo, which is always one of our top selling sparkling wines each year. This year he and his daughter have started making a small quantity of red wine as well. In true form it is delicious and very affordable, offering just the right character to complement almost any casual meal.

When it comes to red wine the producers of the eastern Veneto are more experimental than most in Italy because the region does not have a “go-to” variety, like Sangiovese or Nebbiolo. For this reason, and thanks to the warm, sunny climate Salvatore makes this wine with equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. In order to extract more color from the wine they partially freeze the grapes before processing. This causes a weakening in the cellular walls of the grapes and allows for a gentle extraction of color.
