Further downstream from Anjou, close to the Atlantic coast, France’s Pays Nantais is known predominantly for its oysters and dry white wines which pair perfectly with them. This region is dominated by the Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, named for two tributaries of the Loire River, and benefits from a cool climate distinct maritime influence. Though much of their land is given over to white wine production, the Boulanger family also produce a small amount of Gamay, representing one of our favorite values in the “chillable red” category which is perfect for springtime!

This wine is sourced from older-vine parcels of Gamay, grown on the same mica and granite soils as the family’s white wines. When you serve this wine definitely give it a bit of a chill, so do not be afraid to put it in your refrigerator for half an hour. On the palate, this is a refreshing and lean take on Gamay. Drink now through 2024 with smoked or grilled, roast chicken or deviled eggs.
